For some reason I can’t explain
Once you’d gone it was never, never an honest word
That was when I ruled the world ...
Rowantail sat on a boulder, looking out at the horizon and took a deep breath. He watched as the moon bathed him in a silver light, bringing him memories of that one night ten moons ago, the night that he admitted his feelings for Winterfoot. He still missed her every day he spent without her. He missed her touch, her voice, her gentle love. Most of all, he missed the friendship that she had shown to him for her entire life. She wasn't just his mate, she had been his best friend, his guardian angel, his lifeline. But that ended when she died, far before she should have been taken. Now he was lost, desperately praying that she could just visit his dreams one time, pull him from the place of no stars. Save him from his own inner darkness.
He blinked as he listened to the wind blowing through the grass behind him, as though he could, just for one night, feel Winterfoot's presence next to him, comforting him and telling him that she still loved him. Curling up in a tight ball, Rowantail closed his eyes, attempting to fall asleep, wondering if his restlessness would finally end. No sleep came to him, only a bout of anger at the seemingly endless insomnia that plagued him for another night.
"Why must I live with this curse..." he grumbled.
