Taking a break

Duskwind padded along the river side, looking at the water. He sat down and waited. When a fish came into sight, he quickly lunged at it, and threw in the air, then bit it to still it, "It's been awhile since I've hunted fish," He purred at his catch, and sat to watch Iceheart stalk her own prey.
Her muscles rippled under her still-moss messy fur. Burying his fish, he watch the water, to get his mind of his friend. His ears felt hot for staring at her earlier. Duskwind sighed, I thought she didn't want anyone, but to only focus on becoming a great warrior and maybe deputy, then leader.

Iceheart's muscles were tense as she stalked a small school of fish. Just have to wait for the right moment, she thought. Iceheart stared at the fish for and bit longer and then striked. A medium sized sunfish splashed out of the water. She killed it with one swipe of the paw. "Yes!"

She purred and looked over at Duskwind. She picked up the fish in her mouth and brought it over to Duskwind and buried it beside his fish. "You got a great catch too. I haven't eaten fish for a long time!" Iceheart looked into his eyes once again. Do I really love him? No, not yet. Warrior duties come first. Iceheart shook it off. But is it fate?

Iceheart longed to see her brother, Flametail, again. She could use his advice. I bet I could find him, but its to risky. I'll have to cross the Rouge's Junkyard to get to the loners field and that wouldn't be safe. Iceheart pondered this for a moment, and then went back to the river to continue hunting.

Duskwind caught a glimpse of worry and saddness in her eyes. He sighed, "Flametail...? I miss him, too," He put his tail on her shoulder and nuzzled her on the cheek, affectionly. He froze at what he just did, and he bounded backwards, getting on his hind legs then falling into the river.

He gasped and started to splash around, keeping his head above water, knowing the river is deep. He clawed the grass to pull himself up from the water, but half of his body was in the water, "Iceheart! Help!" He wailed like a scared kit. The she-cat tugged his scruff as hard as she could.

After he was on the shore, "I'm sorry. That was a mouse-brained thing to do," His fur felt hot. "Thank you for saving me, though." His head was low, "You didn't need to... I got myself into doing so..." He trailed off, looking at her in the eyes.

(( He's blunt and a total klutz sometimes. XD ))

"It's alright." Her fur felt hot at what just happened. She padded over next to him and sat down. Iceheart sighed, this day just couldn't get weirder. "Just don't fall into the river again, Klutz!" She pawed at his ear playfully and ran off down the river bank, just like they used to do when they were kits. "You'll never catch me!"

Iceheart purred as she ran, she was really enjoying herself. Maybe I do love him, she thought as she ran. It would be nice to have someone to love, since my parents died and my brother is away. Iceheart shook these thoughts off and continued to run and laugh. I'll just focus on what's going on in this moment, she decided.

Duskwind purred and chased after her, "Why do you think I'm Duskwind? I'm the fastest tom in the Clan!" He sprinted in front of her, and disappeared into the forest.

Memories came back to him...
"You'll never catch me, Icekit!" Duskkit mewed as they raced around in the clearing with Flamekit and Hollykit. "Oof!" He was knocked off his paws by the she-kit and they were rolling around in a pile of leaves.

"Oof!" He was knocked off his paws by Iceheart, who stood over him, truimphly. He purred and battled her stomach with no claws, and pinned her down on her back. "I'm Duskstar, leader of LeafClan!"

((I'll be away for the fourth of July weekend, so i won't be able to post in a little while.))

"Haha, Duskstar." She flipped him with her hind legs, so he landed on his back. Iceheart rolled over and stood over him once more. "I win." Iceheart purred. The memories of her kithood came rolling back to her. She had forgot how much fun running could be! "But I'm the fast she-cat in the clan."

Iceheart shook the leaves from her ruffled pelt and sat back down. "I still remember my first spring. Being born in the dead of winter wasn't very fun. That's why I got my name Icekit. My brother got his name from the flaming hope in my mother's heart." Iceheart paused and then started again. "It was my first time out of the nursery. I ran outside and ran right into Toxicstar. I'll always remember that day." Iceheart purred once more. Playing like a kit brought her back to her earliest memories. Although, it also brought back her pain full memories. Being hit by a monster, being the worst. She looked at her right leg, it looked normal,and it worked fine. I still can't believe it healed completely, she thought.

Duskwind purred at the memory, "Yes. My mother told me and my littermates to hush, since we were wailing too much. And Flamekit and Windkit..." He flinched when he remembered how his youngest sister was killed. He licked her ear to get rid of the sudden grief. "Iceheart? I have a confession to make..."

He looked at the she-cat beside him, "Ever since we were apprentices... I've liked you. Now I think I love you..." He waited for the young warrior to respond. Duskwind looked at her, seeing she was gazing at him. His ears flattened, unsure what to say, then he forced himself, "Will you be my mate...?"

((I'm surprised he didn't have a heart attack, since he never really shows his 'wild' side to anyone else, only to his littermates. O: And okay~ I won't be active next week, since it's my birthday next week. Have fun, though! ^ ^ ))

Iceheart gazed at the tom. "I..I...I don't know what to say...." Iceheart looked away and gazed back toward the river. She remembered an old saying her mother used to tell her.

"Life is like a river. You don't know when it will stop, what it will do or where it will take you." Iceheart remembered the memory. It was a long time ago, when she was just a young kit. "That's why you need to enjoy life and go with the flow. Fighting against the river will always turn out badly. Flow with it, not against it."

Iceheart came back to the time she was in now. She sighed. I need to go with the flow, she thought. She looked back at Duskwind, aware he was waiting for an answer. Iceheart took a deep breath and said, "Come to think of it, I have always loved you too." She leaned against him and purred. "I will be your mate."

((I think on Saturday, I'm gonna be back by 1:00 AM! -dies-))

Duskwind purred back, rubbing against her, "Thank you," He twined his tail with her, and licked her fur on her neck, so it was smooth again, "If we ever have kits, they'll be the most beautiful kits in the Clans. Just like you," He glanced at her, lovingly.

The two hunted and played for a little while longer and dozed off in a tree stump, until it was nearly sundown. He looked at the sky, "Great StarClan! Toxicstar isn't going to be happy we've been gone all this time...!" Duskwind picked up his fresh-kill, "At least we have many to share with the Clan."

Iceheart and Duskwind trotted back to camp. Some apprentices and warriors glanced at them in awe, at how much prey they've gotten. The kits squealed in the nursery, which made Duskwind purr, "That's my sister's kits."

Iceheart looked over toward the nursery. "Rainkit and Cinderkit?" She looked back up at Duskwind. "Let's go eat some fresh kill, I'm starving." She trotted up to the fresh kill pile and picked out a water vole that she had captured earlier. She thought about her day as well. Running through the forest, hunting by the river, dozing off by a tree stump, getting a mate....

Iceheart stopped at that thought. Do I really want a mate? She looked back at Duskwind at the fresh kill pile. Of course I do, I love him. Iceheart shook off these voices in her head and continued to walk to the side of the clearing. Iceheart layed down in some ivy and waited for Duskwind to join her.

The black and white tom disappeared in the nursery with another water vole, then reappeared. He trotted over to the fresh-kill pile once more and picked up a fish.

Duskwind and Iceheart ate together in silence to savor the taste of their fresh-kill. After they were done, he disposed the bones. Coming back, he laid down next to his mate, and licked her cheek, "Your pelt is a ruffled still," Duskwind began to wash Iceheart's pelt, "Want to sleep after this is done?" He mewed, glancing up at her, to meet her gaze.

He continued to clean her pelt until it was slick and smooth, again.
