Dawn Patrol

[Lemon]

"We'll patrol the river bordering Thunderclan for now," Shadestep told his small patrol as they crossed through the forest. "If we have time later we can take time to hunt."
Great Starclan, Shadestep rolled his eyes. By the time we're done, the sun-high patrol will be setting out! The grey tom picked up his pace until he was running, his tail waving with the quick movement.

"Okay," Thistlepaw nodded. She wondered if they would meet a ThunderClan patrol. Secretly she hoped they would, that way she could see what cats in ThunderClan looked like. She hadn't ever met any cats from other clans.
But it was probably best that they didn't meet another patrol. If they did, a fight might break out, and anyway Thistlepaw would have a chance to see other clans at the Gathering, that is if she was allowed to go.

Silvertail followed after Shadestep, glancing over her shoulder a few times to make sure her apprentice was keeping up. She looked behind her and called out to Thistlepaw, "Come on, Thistlepaw," She meowed impatiently with a curt flick of an ear. Silvertail slowed down a bit and brought herself to Thistlepaw's speed, "Shadestep, slow down a little," She couldn't keep the annoyance that clinged to her voice.

Shadestep flicked his ear in irritation but slowed down to a trot. He was frustrated.
I still have other patrols to organize! The tom glared at the ground, trying to mentally urge the others to hurry up.

"Er, sorry, Silvertail, I'll walk faster," Thistlepaw meowed. She sped up quite a bit, until she was almost running. The silver tabby looked at her mentor. Silvertail seemed to be a bit annoyed today. Thistlepaw hoped her mentor wasn't angry with her.

Silvertail shrugged, "There's no need to speed through this so quickly. You'll have plenty of time to get back and organize the other patrols, Shadestep," She rolled her eyes and sped up to her previous speed to catch up to her apprentice, gently flicking the tip of her ear with her tail.

Shadestep bit back a sharp reply. They had reached the small river separating their territory from Thunderclan's.
"Let's just renew the scent marks and make sure no cats have been trespassing," he told Silvertail and Thistlepaw. "Though I can't think of any cat that would be foolish enough to try and cross that." He pointed his tail at the river. It was unusualy high due to the recent rainfall. Water rushed over smooth stones, gurgling as it went by.

Thistlepaw stared down into the river. It really was high, no cat could cross it. Especially ThunderClan. The river looked very pretty in the early morning light, and Thistlepaw almost leaned closer to it, before remembering that 1. She had to help with the scent marks and 2. She might fall in if she leaned to close.
"So, scent markers, right?" Thistlepaw said.

Silvertail nodded slightly, "Although you should have been a bit smarter when choosing your patrol, Shadestep..." She shot at the deputy with a glare. "You're the only one that can leave a marker," She sat down next to her apprentice and continued to stare down the deputy, feeling rather smug that she had spoken against him.

(He didn't have much of a choice x'D )

"Why don't you two look for cobwebs? I'm sure Dawnshadow would be glad of the help," Shadestep retorted, turning and walking briskly away.
"Stupid she-cats," He muttered under his breath, flicking his tail. Why'd they always have to be so difficult? He set about marking a few rocks and the occasional tree

Silvertail glared at Shadestep as he walked away, her fur bristling on the back of her neck a bit. She clenched her teeth and growled back at him, "Well I'm sure she can do it just fine, we need prey more than wobwebs!" She turned around quickly and stalked past her apprentice. Silvertail twitched the end of her tail and looked over her shoulder at Thistlepaw, "Come on," She hissed sharply. "We're going hunting. We can leave him to do the markers," Silvertail didn't wait for an answer and continued walking, stiffly holding her nose to the air to attempt to catch a scent.[/center]

"Okay! Cobwebs!" Thistlepaw bounced to her paws. Cobwebs were useful! She could totally find cobwebs. She would find so many cobwebs that Dawnshadow wouldn't know what to do with them!
That is, if she knew where to find them.
Thistlepaw turned to Silvertail.
"Where do you go to find cobwebs?" She asked.

Silvertail glared at her apprentice, "I already said we're not collecting cobwebs. He can't tell us what to do," She snorted and forced herself not to rake the ground with her claws. Silvertail shivered and flattened the fur on her neck, "We need to go hunting for something that's actually useful and harder to find. You'll get noticed more by the leader if you bring back a plump rabbit, not a plump heap of spider web," She trudged away without a word.

"Oh, s-sorry," Thistlepaw mumbled. She thought about pointing out that since Shadowstep was the deputy, he could tell them what to do, but she didn't want to make her mentor more angry. "Are we going to hunt for forest prey or fish?" Thistlepaw was too excited about either. She had never successfully caught a mouse, and when she went fishing she fell in the river as many times as she caught fishes.

Silvertail shrugged, "Which ever, though I think we should head down to the river and work on that balance of your's; you couldn't catch a fish if you tried," She shot her apprentice a look. "It's a bit hard to catch finish when you're flailing around in the water, and chasing them off," She added lightly, feeling a bit bad for insulting her.
