Shadowsong sat in the shadows, as she usually did. She was alone. No friends, no family, not even a little bird to sing along with. She parted her jaws to sing one simple word, one small word that could possess so much meaning in five simple letters.
Alone.
Her voice echoed through the air and vanished into the sky, just barely touching the clouds. She longed for someone to come, someone to be with, someone to love. Instead, all she had were the tiny crickets, jumping around her paws and chirping into the night. She pressed her paw into the dirt, leaving a vague print. Sadly, there was no one else to put their paw print next to hers.
Suddenly, her senses spiked. Her breathing quickened. There was a cat close to her. She fought the urge to sing her vision; she had scared enough cats with her songs.
Alone.
